Inside Sage 200's core modules

What each Sage 200 module actually does day to day, which ones get switched off during bad migrations, and why that matters to your team.

Sage 200 is often bought for the financials and then used for only the financials. That is a shame, because the modules people leave switched off are usually the ones that would have removed the manual work they are still complaining about.

Financials

Nominal Ledger. The chart of accounts and the reporting structure. This is the piece most worth getting right at implementation — a bloated, inherited chart of accounts is the single most common drag on reporting we see.

Sales and Purchase Ledgers. Customers, suppliers, credit control and payments. Features like suggested payments quietly remove a lot of routine decision-making.

Cash Book. Bank reconciliation. Where it is integrated properly, reconciliation stops being a monthly event.

Commercials

Stock Control. Multi-location stock, valuation and movement history.

Sales and Purchase Order Processing. The order-to-invoice flow. This is where integration pays off most obviously — orders taken at a counter or portal appearing here without re-keying.

Price Book. Customer-specific pricing, discount structures and promotions in one place rather than in people’s heads.

Business Intelligence

Reporting and dashboards against live data. The difference between “how did last month go?” and “how is this week going?”

Period accounting and controls

Proper period control means transactions land where they belong, and closing a period actually closes it. It also means staff are not blocked from posting current transactions while something else finishes.

The modules that get switched off

When a migration is rushed, modules get disabled to get the system live — and never switched back on. Months later the business concludes Sage 200 “can’t do” something it has always been able to do.

If your system feels thinner than the one you were sold, that is worth checking before you conclude you need a different product. We have put exactly this right for clients who assumed the software was the problem.
